The story relates that Naomi had married Hasmoneus, the king of Israel and was pregnant with her first son, Obed, when Hasmoneus went into Mesopotamia to battle against the Seleucids. As luck would have it, Naomi had just finished making a tub and washed Obed off his feet so that he may enter Bethlehem and be welcomed by the rightful king, Bethlehem's protector angel, Nahum. The next morning, Naomi noticed that her husband had gone missing and began searching for her son, but she ran into trouble as a Samaritan attacked her. Luckily, though, the protectors of the New Testament came to assist her and she managed to deliver her son and bring him safely home.

In her case, though, she had given up her earthly possessions in order to give her son Jesus a better life.
