A guardian angel is an important kind of spiritual angel which is assigned to watch over and protect a particular human, group or country. According to popular belief, angels are messengers or sentencers who receive, record and deliver messages from their much higher source. They generally appear in the form of a halo floating above the head, riding a white cloud or riding a rainbow. guardian angels are generally assigned guardian duties by religious groups or authorities. They play an important role in the history and folklore of various religions and cultures. Their importance was elevated during medieval times when they were associated with the Church and were the chief security agents in the medieval society.

The concept of guardianship has become increasingly common throughout the Christian, Muslim and Jewish traditions. They are believed to guard and counsel people with special powers and gifts. guardian angels are not only seen in the physical world as a guiding light on earth but also in other dimensions such as those of astral and ethereal planes. They are believed to exist in the intermediary world between earth and the next world and are considered to be part of the astral or ethereal realm. They play a major role in ancient Jewish lore as it is said that there are archangels who direct the Jews in matters pertaining to the Torah and its commandments.

In both the Hindu and Christian traditions, guardian angels are divine spirits that guide and protect humans. In the Hindu tradition, a guardian angel is a being surrounded by a circle of light who watches over the actions of a person or his belongings. In the Christian tradition, a guardian angel is believed to be someone sent from heaven to protect the soul of Jesus, the Lord, and the Virgin Mary from harm and distress. guardian angels are also considered to exist within the boundaries of the aura or "aura" that surrounds a person. An aura is an invisible spiritual wave that can sometimes be felt to connect people with the guardian angels, they have been instructed to watch over them.

There is much folklore and lore from the old Testament that speak of angels. One of these is the account in the Bible of Raphael, the first human creation, who is said to stand in the center of Heaven while guarding the way to the Garden of Eden. It is said that Satan tried to poison Raphael but succeeded only in poisoning him to the point that he was forced to climb up a large tree to get rid of the poison. Upon reaching the top of the tree, however, Satan realized that Raphael had transformed into an angel of peace and offered to take him back into heaven.

The Book of Ruth tells of the mother of barley who finds her son drowning while making an offering to the River Jordan. She immediately comforts her son and asks the heavenly Father for forgiveness and water to wash away the dirt from his eyes. An angel then rushes in and heals rheumatism and blindness so that the mother may be able to bring up her son.

In the Old Testament book of Deuteronomy, a story is told of Samson's relationship with Naomi, daughter of Bethlehem. The story relates that Naomi had married Hasmoneus, the king of Israel and was pregnant with her first son, Obed, when Hasmoneus went into Mesopotamia to battle against the Seleucids. As luck would have it, Naomi had just finished making a tub and washed Obed off his feet so that he may enter Bethlehem and be welcomed by the rightful king, Bethlehem's protector angel, Nahum. The next morning, Naomi noticed that her husband had gone missing and began searching for her son, but she ran into trouble as a Samaritan attacked her. Luckily, though, the protectors of the New Testament came to assist her and she managed to deliver her son and bring him safely home.

In Christianity, one of the most popular stories from the New Testament is that of Saint Barbara, a Catholic saint whose life served as an example for countless others. In her case, though, she had given up her earthly possessions in order to give her son Jesus a better life. When she died, she left a will containing all her properties to her son and these were later given to a Dominican friar who would raise them to God and become a saint.

While it is not entirely clear how Saint Barbara actually gained her possession of the throne of Heaven, one account suggests that her prayers for the survival of her people during the plague brought her into the presence of Jesus, who intervened and restored peace and safety to the world. In some legends, the role of guardian angels is linked to the role of a secret intermediary between the Creator and humanity. They would act as a channel between God and humans, granting wishes and stopping unneeded actions or thoughts. Some New Testament passages describe guardian angels as archangels, sent from God to keep watch over humanity and warn of the dangers lurking in every situation.
